Being at my grandparent's house was always a way for me to escape from whatever was going on in my life at the time. Like
most grandparents, they would watch me a lot over the week-
ends when my parents wanted to do things and I was always doing something while I was there. My grandmother taught me
a lot of things like baking, crocheting, sewing, painting, and so much more. My grandfather taught me how to ride dirt bikes, mow lawns, and care for things around the house. This place felt like home, even more than my actual home.
Even though I had good times at my house with my parents, once they started to have issues and ended up divorcing, I started
to feel more at home here. There was never any fighting, yelling,
or anger in this house while I was there. It was a place where I was the focus and that helped me feel safe while there was so
much going on in my life around me. Being here was my escape
and I'm grateful that six-year-old me was able to have that when
I needed it.
